Hi Christine,

Very nice blog you have and very useful I think. I am a college student a Biology major and was wondering if you had any advice for a person who does not even know where they want to go, or what they want to do seems to change every 5 minutes? Thanks

Christine,

You're giving me hope. I've been really struggling with these feelings of switching back and forth between "this is hopeless, how did my life become this passionless corporate hole?" and "I'm going to take charge of my future and pursue my dreams!" I got into music school but didn't get a scholarship, so I'm facing that feeling of weighing the risk of just throwing caution to the wind and jumping in, knowing that I'll be working toward something that means more to me than any money ever could, and then being very afraid at the very real possibility of having over 100k in loans, and essentially paying a mortgage sized payment for the next 30 years...and likely not having a job that will provide that money if I'm starting fresh as a musician.

*sigh* but sacrifices and struggles are what make the wonderful things in life so wonderful. If everything was easy it'd be boring. I just wish I didn't feel quite so stressed and desperate! I'm going to defer for a year to try to re-audition for a scholarship, and then if I still don't get one, I think I'll say "screw it, I'm going anyway!"

Great post, you hit many nails on the head. I see many blogs that sound and look alike. My desire is to be different and myself at the same time. There is nothing better than being paid for what you do best!

I took a small part time job that grew to fulltime job almost, I didn't want to work that many hours away from home. When you are good the more they want you to work.

Several years ago I made the shift (forced! :-D) from cubicle to lifestyle. Side Note: I need to find the owner of the company I worked for and thank him!.

But before that I had got so caught up in what I thought was important...chasing money.

Chasing money made into a person I didn't recognize. In fact, when somebody would ask me or if I was reading a self-help book and the question was asked what is your perfect life? I couldn't answer that question.

So, I think people need to take a step back and a deep breath and really thin about who they are and what they really want.

Just my .02 cents!

Hi Caroline – your comments are so true. I am a strong proponent (and practitioner) of pursuing personal freedom on a daily basis. While it is not easy, I could never go back to the corporate life (or cube) again. That is a conscious decision I made YEARS ago.

However, I am not sure people even know how to step out of their own drudgery? Sometimes when you are in a negative situation it seems it takes less energy to stay there, as opposed to making a positive change. On top of that add a car payment, mortgage, kids to take care of, etc…

Anyways – I always like to hear/read success stories and you and Christine seem to be doing very well in your quest for freedom.
