Thanks for the great post! In fact, it is not the first one I read and found very helpful.
I can only agree with you when it comes to the power of relationships. I'm very new to the online business world - my website is less than 2 months old - but my offline business (I'm a dressmaker for flamenco artists) is proof that you are right. Virtually all new clients are referred to me by existing ones. I do absolutely no marketing and never suffer lack of work. So when it comes to my website I won't forget that lesson.

This really punches home that blogging is more like a conversation than a lecture - everyone is talking with everyone in the network rather than one person standing at the front of the class and spilling out their knowledge. Great post!

Hi T! Thanks for subscribing :) I really like the transparency of your blog posts and the fact that you talk about things that many others seem to avoid - count me in!

What great tips, especially for a novice blogger like me. I intend to follow every one of them.

With that in mind, I wanted to let you know that I subscribed to your blog (before reading this post;-) and would most appreciated if you would return the favor. :-)

That's a great point Margie - the holidays are just around the corner - this is the perfect time of year to buy from your fellow bloggers and small business owners - and make important friends and connections in the process.

lol - Thanks Maki - I'm just cracking Stumble Upon and am planning one or more posts on in for this blog and for another blog that I write for. I'm seeking out great Stumble posts from top Stumblers and doing some interviews as well. If you're up for an email interview - let me know! I will search your blog for some of those great SU posts - if you'd like, send me some links to your favorite or most useful ones. :D

Hey Christine,

Great article.

Links + traffic are by far the most important currency in the blogosphere.

Take for example, your first paragraph, which mentions StumbleUpon. I've written several very in-depth and well received StumbleUpon articles and most people know I have a pretty active and strong SU account.

Linking to me would get me over to your blog and I'll very likely promote it and share it on other social sites I'm active on. But because you didn't link, you missed that opportunity and I had to discover this post on my own. Not to mention you didn't score any points because I don't get any praise or mention. People love to hear nice things about themselves.

Make friends with targeted influencers and your content or business will grow much faster than before. :)

@ Steven - I like that story too - It has really stuck with me over the last few weeks and redefined how I think about patronizing small businesses!

@ Erin - EXACTLY - there are few people more loyal than a group of small business owners.

@ John - John, thank you so much - It has been a real pleasure talking with you and I'm loving your blog!

@ Marek - Thanks and have fun networking! Definitely one of most exciting aspects of blogging :D

@ Beth - How funny! I am looking for the same thing and will be turning to the blogosphere to find the person who will get my business!
