Call Me Out On My Errors and Win a 4 Hour Workweek

Four Hour Work WeekHere’s a chance for you to point out all of my mistakes and win a copy of Tim Ferriss’s “The 4-Hour Work Week” for doing so!

This Sunday I had a goal to launch an entire website in 7 hours and I accomplished it.

This included:

  • Buying the domain
  • Database setup and installation
  • Choosing and installing the template
  • Writing all of the content

In the past, it has taken me weeks or even months to launch a website, but I put my belief in the Parkinson’s Law which basically states that no matter how much time you allow yourself to get something completed, the task will consume that amount of time. In other words, if I set myself a goal to get this very website finished in 3 days, it would have taken 3 days. On the other hand, if I set a goal to complete it in 7 hours, it would take 7 hours. It worked.

Why A Contest

I planned on starting on the website earlier in the day, but then life happened and I didn’t get started on it until about 5:30pm. In my opinion, the single greatest thing about working for yourself is that you can work around your life, not live around your work. For example, though I planned on starting early in the morning, I decided to take the kids to Denny’s for breakfast. Then we went to the mall and had fun for an hour where the kids picked out some really fun books and played in the play area. After that, we ended up at the grocery store to stock up for the week.

Between 5:30pm and the time I finished the site at 2:30am, we ate dinner where we got into a discussion about oceans which led to us pulling out the encyclopedia to learn more. Then the kids got into the encyclopedias and each found a topic they were interested in (owls and ants) and read to me about their discoveries. Later we all went to the hot tub and had fun for about a half hour.

Around all of this living, I managed to still finish this entire site in 7 hours. I’m sharing this with you only to make the point that if you think you don’t have enough time to accomplish what you think you should, you probably do.

How to Win Your Copy of ‘The 4-Hour Work Week’

Because I created this entire site and all of the content in record time, I’m certain that there must be some spelling and grammatical errors. If you can find them, I will put your name into a drawing (1 entry for every error you find) to win a copy of Tim Ferriss’s “The 4-Hour Work Week,” which as many of you may know, this is my all-time favorite book. If you already have The 4-Hour Work Week, I will send you a copy of my second favorite book, “The Success Principles” by Jack Canfield.

This will also give you a chance to learn a little bit more about my background and see one of my strategies for creating passive income and how you can create passive income too.

The site is:…..

UPDATE! Congratulations Lodewijkvdb for calling me out on my errors and winning the 4 Hour WorkWeek!  After this site was up for about a week, I decided I wanted to take a new angle with it and spent another weekend day launching a new site Lifestyle Vacationing.  Even though the contest has ended, if you find any errors here - call me out on them!

Send your review of the errors to me by email at christine[at]selfmadechick[dot]com. Again, if you point out 5 errors, I’ll add your name to the hat 5 times for the drawing. I’ll do the drawing and announce the winner on Friday, September 28th.

Tear it up! Call me out! I can’t wait to receive your proofreading criticisms and then send you a prize for it!

My two cents, for what its worth….

First Christine, the fact that you were able to put together a fully functional business website within 7 hours while tending to your children is a kick in the butt to the majority of individuals that are going to read this post. Way to go!!

Secondly, the site itself looks very professional and is adapted well, I believe to the individuals it will service. I have seen some websites which were designed in 7 WEEKS with less draw to them.

Lastly, if I pick out 100 errors does that mean my name will be added to this so called hat 100 times? I kidd, I kidd.

Wonderful contest you have here, and yes Tim is very admirable.

Regards.

Thank you Bunk! You kid, but yes! If you find 100 errors, you will be entered 100 times! Thanks for the many compliments and I am enjoying your blog very much. :)

I totally agree with Bunk! Way to go, chick ;)

I have only glimpsed at the site, and it looks very good. I’ll dive into it later.

I’ve been reading in the Success Principles a lot lately, and it struck me that Tim Ferris is actually one of the people Jack Canfield uses as an example. How strange is that!? I almost read over it, but the name caught my eye, and I was like “wtf?” for a couple of seconds :)

Do you want the errors reported by email or in the comments of this post?

Wow Lodewijkvdb! I read the Success Principles BEFORE reading the 4 Hour Workweek so didn’t even pick up on the fact that Canfield uses Tim Ferriss as an example.

I’m really glad you’re enjoying the book you won! And thanks for calling me out on my errors - you may very well win another one!

I am really impressed that you could get this site created in such a short time. My kids must be more intense than yours - one is calling “Daddy, daddy, daddy” as I write this!! The copy is compelling and the site clean and non-distracting. If I was looking for an opportunity I think you would have convinced me to look further at this one.

Yes! I changed my mind about everything on this page and spent another day creating a new one last weekend. :D The new site is http://www.lifestylevacationing.com.

Thanks for pointing that out - I meant to come back here and post an update!
