Whoa indeed! Like Lily, I too have been procrastinating, but this post has definitely lit a fire under me. This is the best "dummies" instruction I've seen in a while, a good quick fire method to get things kick-started. I've already got my niche (technical writing), I just need to get a move on. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

Christine, Just bought your ebook. Fantastic. I am such a newbie however after reading your book I am hitting the road running. You are a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for the insight and motivation just to do it. I look forward to future blogs. I am re-inventing my skills after working in a cubicle with a headset for some 10 years in the banking and health industries. I am at home and out of the shift work environment. I will make it work and with your inspiration haven't got a doubt in my mind. I look forward to getting to know you.

May every day be the best ever,
Pamela Harper

Christine, I've used every excuse in the book. It's too hot, it's too cold, Oprah's on...Now after reading this great blog, I'm going to do myself a favor and throw all excuses out the door.

Thanks for getting real with us.

Christine,

I recently discovered your existence. I was doing an online search for something, I don't remember for what, when I came across your name. Wow! So much great information. Thanks for your candor. My question: What were your rates during the execution phase?

Okay, I just took the plunge. I emailed about ten SEO companies in my area (doubling down) and we'll see what happens. Hopefully I'll get the same results!

Thanks for the whole 'take the plunge' mantra. It's really the only thing that got me to do this.

Varun - That is great advice about doing a little each day. Most people that I talk to that work for clients say that they spend all their time doing client work and only a very small amount of time building their own business! Reminds me of the saying "the cobbler's son has no shoes." I've been guilty of the same thing! This is something I've vowed to change though as part of the "Freelance Smackdown" with Dave Navarro.

Congrats to you for constantly working to promote your business. You are so right - a little each day can really add up to something monumental over time.

Hey Christine, Again Great Post. I got her yesterday and I have to say, I'll come again and be on the lookout on your blog posts...

Great Solid advice. I wish I had someone told me this no-nonsense advice 10 years ago, when I was starting out... I wish...

I have a Message To Your future Readers: All of this knowledge is useless, if you don’t take any action now.

If you are starting, go on a road, talk to people in your industry. Don't Just Network, instead build value for them with your service. Create a barter network or a referral network. You Just Have to ASK.

Oh ALWAYS CHARGE PREMIUM. No underselling. Just a while ago I did a consultation with a share broker. I told him to stop doing business with people if they are not ready to put at least $2500(A big sum in India)in share market with him. If they don't, then just give them a name of his colleague who'd kill for another referral. I had to write out a basic script on objections and others but the results were stellar.

He's converting more people who were dilly dallying around the money issue.(On side note : Watch movie Boiler room, Its about share market, Vin diesel, You'll learn basics of selling ;))

Here's one rule I follow. Do At least one act everyday to promote myself. It doesn't matter if I cold call someone, write a press release or an article or blog post.

If you are doing this, All of your efforts will build up overtime...
